Shaded area at the Sidi Guariach Mosque (Melilla) with 14 HDPE sails. A functional and durable space, adapted for outdoor prayer.
The Muslim Centre of Melilla, located at the Sidi Guariach Mosque, needed to create a shaded outdoor area, a space dedicated to prayer that required solar protection and thermal comfort. Starting from several 3D plans with a predefined idea, at Benito Urban we developed the final constructive solution and followed the project through to its full execution.
The structure consists of 14 sand-colored tensioned sails, supported by five metal pillars—four positioned in the centre and one on the side. The remaining anchor points are lateral and were fixed directly to the existing concrete slab, ensuring the overall stability of the system. All pillars are 4 meters tall. The columns were painted white, adding brightness and harmony to the setting, while the sails, made of HDPE, a strong and durable material ideal for outdoor use, complete an efficient and aesthetic solution.
The result is a functional, harmonious space perfectly suited to the religious use of the centre.
