BENITO's major gaming projects: When does it make sense to install them?

26 March 2026

Large-scale play structures have become a focal point in many urban parks. Their visual impact is undeniable, but their true value lies not in their size, but in the role they can play within an urban strategy.

The key question is not whether they impress, but when it makes sense to invest in them.

1. When the goal is to create a destination space

In metropolitan parks, waterfronts, or new urban developments , a large-scale structure can act as a driving force. It not only attracts families from the immediate surroundings but also transforms the space into a landmark within the city.

In these cases, the game ceases to be complementary and becomes central to the project design.

2. When seeking to broaden the age range

Unlike conventional Playground , large structures allow for the integration of different difficulty levels within the same system. This facilitates:

  • Simultaneous play of different ages
  • Open and progressive routes
  • Greater usability in less space

In neighborhoods with high child density or in large-scale urban facilities, this versatility is especially efficient.

3. When the space needs social activation

There are plazas or parks that, despite being well-designed, don't encourage people to linger. Play is one of the most effective urban activators because it increases the time people spend in them, improves the perception of safety, and revitalizes the surroundings.

A large structure can transform a passageway into a meeting place.

4. When the project requires identity

Some urban interventions seek an iconic element that lends character to the surroundings. In these cases, the structures can adopt different approaches:

  • Sculptural and landscape-like, integrating into the natural environment.
  • Technical and modular, focused on the physical challenge.
  • Themed, generating an immersive experience.

The choice will depend on the context, the budget, and the planned maintenance.

5. When technical feasibility is guaranteed

Large format printing requires planning. Before installation, it is essential to consider regulations (EN 1176), material durability, anti-corrosion treatment, and resistance.structural strength and long-term maintenance costs.

Visual impact must be accompanied by technical reliability.

6. Three approaches, different objectives

Large structures can respond to different urban strategies:

  • Unique , with playable sculptures of strong landscape character.
  • Nexus , large-scale structures with open routes and progressive challenge.
  • Titan , themed formats designed to generate immersive experiences.

Beyond size, installing a large structure makes sense when the project seeks to activate, identify and consolidate a space within the city.

Because, ultimately, the best indicator of urban quality is the life that happens in it.
