Surge protector device SPD

APS2

Description

Benito-Novatilu’s <APS2 surge protector device increases the reliability and average life of luminaires with LED technology. The devices that make up a luminaire (LED modules, drivers, communication and control nodes, etc.) are electronic equipment that could suffer serious damage in the medium and short term due to overvoltage, significatively reducing their useful life.

Why instal Benito-Novatilu’s <APS2 Surge Protector Device?
- Street lighting installations are more exposed to atmospheric discharges.
- A large part of street lighting panels lack transient overvoltage protection.
- In very long lighting lines, the protection of the panels can become totally inefficient.
- The protection included in the drivers is insufficient to ensure the effectiveness against usual overvoltage peaks in street lighting lines.

Transient Overvoltage:
They are produced by the induction of atmospheric discharges in power lines, but the ones produced by switching manoeuvres in the grid, engine start-up, etc. can also have damaging effects.
The <APS2 has an overvoltage peak capacity of up to 20 kA.

How does Benito-Novatilu’s <APS2 Surge Protector Device work?
Benito-Novatilu’s <APS2 Surge Protector Device is connected in series, as shown in the attached diagram.
The device absorbs the line’s overvoltage peaks between phase, neutral and earth, diverting them mainly to earth.
The purpose of the <APS2 is to protect the luminaire. When it reaches the end of its life, it disconnects the luminaire, thus preventing it from being left unprotected at any time.
The switched-off luminaire is easily detected by maintenance services. Replacing the Surge Protector Device is almost as easy as replacing a fuse.

Applicable regulation:
Benito-Novatilu’s <APS2 Surge Protector Device is of TYPE 2 (20 kA) and is manufactured according to the EN 61643-11 standard.
