New Geological Garden in Les Corts (Barcelona) with museographic elements developed by Benito Urban to transform public space into an open-air educational and outreach experience.
Need / Issue: The project required museographic solutions capable of supporting the educational route and communicating scientific content within public space.
Solution: Development of totems, panels and exhibition elements integrated into the geological and urban route.
Result: A more visual, accessible and interactive educational experience is created for students, visitors and citizens.
In the neighbourhood of La Maternitat i Sant Ramon, in Les Corts (Barcelona), the new Geological Garden of the University Area has been inaugurated, becoming the city’s first open-air museum. Located in front of the Faculty of Earth Sciences of the University of Barcelona, this 1,830 m² space transforms the urban environment into an extension of the university’s teaching and research areas.
As part of the museographic project, Benito Urban developed the various informational and exhibition elements along the route, including individual totems for geological pieces, educational vertical panels, longitudinal structures linked to geological time, and large-format elements integrated into the urban landscape.
The intervention also includes a unique entrance piece inspired by the Earth’s internal structure, conceived as a symbolic gateway to knowledge.
The project combines design, scientific dissemination and public space to bring Earth sciences closer to citizens through an urban, educational and interactive experience.
